ABOUT LOS CABOS

Los Cabos is the municipality which includes the cities of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, as well as the Tourist Corridor that links them at the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula (the Baja Sur).
An unearthly combination of desert, mountain and seascape along the southern most tip of the planet’s fourth longest peninsula, Baja California Sur is a land of stark contrasts. Graced with mountains soaring to 6000 ft and majestic deserts surrounded by brilliantly hued waters, it’s simultaneously hard to get to and very accessible.

Of this region’s innumerable pleasures, two are prominent: fishing and golfing. Cabo is famed for its acrobatic billfish and world-class golf. The avid fisherman is able to find Fractional or full time Cabo living in beautifully exclusive developments such as Capella Pedregal, where a private yacht fleet for fishing or entertaining is at the disposal of members. Avid golfers have a myriad of opportunities to live on the green at stunning 5-star developments that stretch from the airport in San Jose del Cabo to the Pacific side at the tip of the peninsula.

For those whose interests lie elsewhere, there are wonderful adventures waiting for you as well. You can get close to gray whales off the Pacific coast, hike through the desert to see ancient cave paintings, stroll along pristine beaches, or just a few hours away, you can swim with playful sea lions near La Paz, or dive at the Cabo Pulmo coral reef. If you’re after more heart thudding adventures, there are a myriad of opportunities, including horseback riding, ATV tours to the more desolate parts of the peninsula, fishing charters, lunch and dinner cruises, or swimming with dolphins. For romance, there are beachside dinners, luxury accommodations, dazzling sunsets, and dinner shows. For mindless fun, check out the Cabo after-hours circuit. But for those wanting respite from their everyday lives, true escape is just a spa away.

If you’re a nature-lover, you’ll love Baja as one of the last great wild places on earth. It has a fascinating diversity of flora and fauna, including numerous reptiles and one of the highest concentrations of bird species in North America.

The average year-round water temperature in the Sea of Cortez is 75°F. The climate is arid with over 300 days of sunshine, with some reports of over 350 days. Los Cabos is accessible within hours by air from most major cities in the United States and Mexico by Aeromexico, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Continental, Mexicana, United Airlines, and various others from all major airports, including charter flights flying into the Los Cabos International Airport. From Los Angeles and San Diego, the flying time is approximately 2 hours. Barely enough time for a snack and a vacation champagne toast!

By land, Cabo is accessible via Highway 1, which runs the entire length of Baja California from the US border. There is Greyhound Bus service from Los Angeles to Tijuana via San Diego and then by Autotransportes Aguila from Tijuana to La Paz and then on to Los Cabos or by various other tour bus operators. From Tijuana, the drive is quite long (22 hours by car and 30+ hours by Greyhound). The roads are narrow, but in decent condition, so if you decide to personally partake in the beauty of the region, just be alert and careful. We strongly advice that you don’t drive at night, as the Baja is free-range, and cows, goats, and horses can frequently be seen in the middle of the highway, and watch for those curvas peligrosas (dangerous curves). In Mexico they don’t waste time with unnecessary signage!
